Home to Tennessee baseball, Robert M. Lindsay Field at Lindsey Nelson Stadium opened in 1993 and underwent renovations in 2010 and 2018. The University of Tennessee Volunteers baseball team represents the school in NCAA Division I college baseball. Despite having to play on the road, Tennessee overcame Southern Miss in three games, earning their sixth trip to the Men’s College World Series. In Omaha, they broke a six-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory over Stanford, winning their first CWS game since 2001.
Under pitching coach Frank Anderson, Tennessee boasted one of the nation’s top pitching staffs, ranking among the top five in various categories such as ERA, WHIP, strikeout-to-walk ratio, shutouts, total strikeouts, strikeouts per nine innings, hits allowed per nine innings, and walks allowed per nine innings.
The Vols set a program record with six pitchers selected in the 2023 MLB Draft, headlined by first-rounder Chase Dollander, who went No. 9 overall to the Colorado Rockies. In total, Tennessee had eight players chosen in the draft, tied for the second-most in program history.
Pitchers Andrew Lindsey and AJ Russell earned All-America status, with Lindsey named a third-team selection by Baseball America and Russell receiving third-team honors from the NCBWA. Russell also earned Freshman All-America honors from the NCBWA, D1Baseball.com, and Baseball America, making him the seventh player in program history to achieve Freshman All-American status from three separate outlets.
